Back on the road and off to Windjana Gorge.
Windjana Gorge is an ancient reef which is 3.5 kms long and cuts through the Napier Range. The Lennard River runs through the gorge in the wet season and the walls of this gorge are up to 100 m high. The Entrance into Windjana Gorge is through a rock passageway and as you walk along you can spot fossilized marine life in the limestone walls. Freshwater Crocodiles inhabit the pools along the way.

From our camp site we in Windjana we took a trip down to Tunnel Creek which is about 30 kms away. Tunnel Creek flows through a natural cave. For this trek make sure you wear shoes that can get wet and don’t forget a torch it is pitch black in there. As you make your way down through the rocky entrance you step straight into water about calf deep (depending on the time of the season) and on the way through the water in places can get thigh deep. There are only a few sections that you have to walk through the water. On the walk there is a section of roof that has caved in so you have sunlight for a few minutes then back into the darkness again. The water can be heard trickling through the walls and the rock formations are beautiful. You may spot a couple of small fresh water crocs but they don’t worry anyone. I absolutely love caves and this walk is a must do. 
Tunnel Creek
Derby was our next destination and we were pleased to finally be on a sealed road. We checked into the caravan park and it was great to have phone service, power and air conditioning at long last. The main street is lined with boab trees and is quite pretty. The plan was to go fishing but Derby has 11 m tides so we put the boat in as the tide was receding and not realizing how fast the tide comes in or out we got stuck so we waited and waited and waited. We did look like a pair of idiots but anyway.
Fishing was difficult with the fierce run of the water but we did manage to get 10 mud crabs in 2 hours just near the boat ramp in a little creek that only fills up at high tide.
On the way out of Derby we stopped at this Prison Tree. Reading the history of what they were used for was an eye opener.

Stopping at the Willare Roadhouse for fuel I went in for a look. They sell local meat here so we bought a block of rump to slice up into steaks and it was very tasty. I also spotted some slow cooked beef ribs in the hotbox and Kev was drooling over them, and he said they tasted even better than they looked.
In Broome we stayed at the Palm Grove Holiday resort (caravan park) a very clean park with a pool which we enjoyed most afternoons of the week we were there. The shop/takeaway next door has a Putt Putt course and that was a bit of fun to. When in Broome it is a must to drive down onto Cable Beach and watch the sunset with a few drinks and nibbles. Watching the Camels loaded with passengers is a real icon.
